Dome Hybrid Reamer

Patented Technologies
Dome Hybrid Reamer
Only Ream When Needed
A passive reamer that stabilizes while you drill and only reams where the hole calls for it. Cuttings keep moving past the tool, without compromising weight on bit or torque.
Closer to Gauge
Featuring a longer blade for cutting closer to gauge, the extended design makes room for a parabolic taper that optimizes cutting action. TCIs and PDC cutters are distributed around a hydrodynamic blade profile.
High-Impact Protection
Rugged where it counts most, this tool features overlapping, leached, double-chamfered PDC cutters with optimized side-rake and back-rake angles. A backup TCI behind each PDC protects against high-impact damage and acts as a depth-of-cut limiter.
Top Stabilizer
Ideal as the top stabilizer, you can run it for passive protection on the way down and backreaming capability when you need it, without compromising weight on bit or torque.
Stabilizer & Reamer
One tool, two jobs. Acting as a stabilizer and reamer in one, it requires no dedicated reaming runs. Benefit from less backreaming, lower stuck-pipe risk, and smoother casing runs to TD in extended-reach and tortuous wells.

Introduction

The Dome Hybrid Reamer is a dual-function tool that stabilizes the BHA during normal drilling operations and reams on demand.

Its hydrodynamic blade profile provides passive protection on the way down with minimal interference while drilling, and backreaming capability when required, without compromising weight on bit or torque performance.

From the top stabilizer position to casing running at TD, it reduces backreaming requirements and stuck pipe risk across extended reach and tortuous wellbore profiles, available in 5⅞"–17½" hole sizes.

Ream on Demand

Passive on the way down, reaming when required, eliminating dedicated reaming runs without adding drag while drilling.

Graduated Cutting Action

A parabolic taper distributes TCIs and PDC cutters across each stage, with optimized cutting action closer to gauge.

Protected Cutting Structure

Backup TCIs behind every PDC cutter guard against high impact damage and act as cut depth limiters for a controlled ream.

How It Works

A Stabilizer First, a Reamer When It Matters

Conventional reamers cut whether the hole needs it or not. This adds torque, generates cuttings, and interferes with weight on bit even in good holes. The Dome Hybrid Reamer only engages when the wellbore demands it.

Extended blade length accommodates a parabolic taper, with overlapping, double chamfered PDC cutters and backup TCIs distributed across each stage. Optimized side-rake and back-rake angles keep the cutting action smooth and graduated, while the hydrodynamic profile minimizes interference during normal drilling.

The result is one tool doing two jobs: BHA protection and improved weight transfer while drilling, with backreaming capability and smooth casing running to TD when you need it.
