Running Casing and Completions

Running Casing and Completions

Target Depth on the First Attempt

Micro-doglegs, ledges and debris stop casing, liners and completions short of target depth, and an off-depth landing costs you zonal isolation, a remedial trip, or a sidetrack. DTI offers solutions for both ends of the problem: conditioning the hole while you drill, and then providing a powered reamer shoe at the end of the casing assembly so your string gets to depth on the first attempt.

Get in Touch

Challenge

The hole you drilled is the hole your casing has to run through. Casing is stiffer than the BHA, and it will not follow the same path.

A single tight spot is enough to obstruct casing to bottom.

Lands You Off Depth

Tight spots, ledges and debris stop casing or completions before target depth, which compromises your well design and zonal isolation.

Costs you a Remedial Trip

A stuck string or a failed run means pulling out, washing or reaming, and running again resulting in unplanned & unbudgeted rig time.

Risks a Sidetrack

In the worst case an obstructed wellbore forces a sidetrack, which adds weeks and millions of Dollars to the final well expenditure.

Root Causes

Addressing the Root Causes

A string that stops short is almost never a casing problem. It is the hole, the debris in it, and the weight you have left to push with. DTI targets all three, before the run and during it.

Micro-Doglegs

Casing is stiffer than the BHA that drilled the hole. A path your string managed is not a path your casing will follow.

Ledges and Tight Spots

Formation transitions and borehole upsets leave shoulders that stop a string dead, often within a few hundred feet of target depth.

Cuttings Beds and Debris

Solids settled on the low side of the lateral pack up ahead of the shoe and build a plug your casing cannot push through.

Drag and Lost Available Weight

The longer the lateral, the more of your set-down weight goes into friction. What arrives at the shoe is not enough to push on.

Helical Buckling of the Work String

Push harder on a string that cannot rotate and it buckles, so the weight you add goes into the wellbore wall instead of down to the shoe.
